WhatsApp Extends Stay On Blackberry And Nokia devices

WhatsApp, the social interactive platform that boasts of over 1 billion users across mobile platforms has recently announced that support for Blackberry OS, Blackberry 10, Nokia S40 and Nokia Symbian will now run till June 30, 2017. Sadly, not all platforms will enjoy this extension; Android 2.1 and 2.2, Windows Phone 7 and iPhone 3GS/iOS 6 will lose support.

In a bid to provide the best services to users the management stated its intention to focus on modern platforms, that is to say WhatsApp will no longer run on Nokia, Blackberry and older Android models from January 1, 2017.

“While these mobile devices may have been an important part of our story, they don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future. This was a tough decision for us to make, but the right one in order to give people better ways to keep in touch with friends, family and loved ones using WhatsApp. If you use any one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android, iPhone or Windows Phone before the end of 2016 to continue using WhatsApp,” the company stated.

WhatsApp currently tops Google Play store and Apple App store as one of the most downloaded applications even with competitors like Telegram and WeChat trying to usurp its users.
