Airtel Nigeria has kick-started its five Days of Love Celebration geared at feeding 5000 Nigerians within a five day duration.
The initiative, which is in partnership with Food Concepts Plc, operators of Chicken Republic food outlet, started off in Lagos with the feeding of the first 1000 people as Airtel’s annual Corporate Social Responsibility initiative.
Speaking at the opening of the event, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Airtel, Mr. SegunOgunsanya, thanked participants for coming out to partake in the celebration and noted that the gesture is in the spirit of the yuletide. “We are celebrating Christmas and New Year early.”
In a short speech, the Executive Chairman, Ikoyi/Obalende LCDA, Atanda-LawalFuadAbimbola pointed out that hunger forms the major cause of anger, and therefore thanked Airtel for providing for the masses. He applauded the good relationship between Airtel and the local government council.
The initiative which kicked off in Lagos on December 11, will end at the Edo State Museum and Cultural Centre Ring Road, Benin City on December 15.
“Christmas is a time of celebration, festivity, and love. Airtel, in celebration of this yuletide, remains committed to spreading love, joy, and happiness across the communities where we operate. We are passionate about uplifting and empowering Nigerians and will continue to create and support platforms that make lives better for our consumers. My colleagues across different regions of the country will also be embarking on this journey of giving, which is one of our key CSR interventions,” said the Airtel CEO.
According to the CEO of Chicken Republic, David Butler, the partnership between Airtel Nigeria and Chicken Republic brings respite to many Nigerians even as the company is wholly indigenous and sources all its products locally. He thanks participants for coming out to enjoy the food.
Other venues for the Celebration are Democracy Park Akure, Ondo State, LEA Junior Secondary School Durumi 2 Garki, Abuja, Government Girls Secondary School, TudunNupawa, Kaduna State and the Edo State Museum and Cultural Centre Ring Road, Benin City.
The Five Days of Love CSR initiative is part of Airtel’s Employee Volunteer Scheme (EVS), a platform created to assist underprivileged people.
