Technology experts that gathered for the IDEA Forum organised by TECHLIFE Media And Communications Limited have recommended measures that will ensure that infrastructure in the telecom industry is given adequate security, noting its importance in economic growth of the country.
The event, which held in Lagos recently, formed a platform for industry stakeholders to proffer solutions to the lingering challenges affecting service delivery in that sector.
The Managing Director and CEO of Medallion Data Center, Engr. Ikechukwu Nnamani, who delivered a keynote address emphasised on key parameters for protecting data center infrastructure. These he said includes securing cell sites, effective monitoring, implementing protective ducting, and ensuring professional security at infrastructure locations. He also applauded NCC’s portal for infrastructure infractions reporting.
In his position, MD of ICSL, Mr. Yemi Oshodi, stressed the critical need for effective regulatory frameworks to govern critical national infrastructure, urging government intervention to protect against cyber threats and infrastructure vandalism. He also presented compelling statistics on the revenue generation potential of a robust infrastructure for economic growth.
In her contribution at the Panel Session, MD of Integrated Security Services Limited, Mrs. Victoria Ekomu, reinforced the importance of robust policing and the adoption of modern security methodologies to counter increasingly sophisticated criminal activities targeting critical infrastructure.
Sharing personal experiences illustrating the challenges of infrastructure protection and the potential for economic setbacks due to vandalism, Co-founder of Infratel Africa, Dr. Tola Yusuf, highlighted the dynamic nature of critical national infrastructure and the vital role of investment in supporting economic growth.
A Cyber Security Professional, who was also part of the session, Olamide Odeneye, underscored the persistent threat of cyberattacks and data breaches, advocating for strengthened inter-agency collaboration, enhanced information gathering, and effective monitoring to protect critical infrastructure.
