The Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents in Nigeria (AMMBAN) has called on the Central Bank of Nigeria and other commercial banks in the country to collaborate more with members of the association to address the issues relating to cash scarcity and fraud.
Taraba State Chapter Chairman of the association, Mr. Bulus Audu Daniel made the call in Jalingo earlier this week, as part of his New year message.
Daniel noted that members of the association are usually the closest to the people especially in the rural areas and are in a very good position to address the financial needs of the people and check the problem of high unbanked population.
“This association is the umbrella body for all the Financial Inclusion and Digital Economy Service Providers in Nigeria popularly known as POS Operators. We deeply regret the experience of our members in the year 2023 regarding financial crisis associated with the implementation of cashless policy and subsequent cash scarcity that nearly paralysed the economy.
“AMMBAN calls on the various stakeholders to give priority to collaborations and team work to achieve better and greater results and also appeals to all our members to always adhere to the codes of ethics and professionalism and to also observe the safety protocols in our business operations.
“We have lined up activities for the year 2024 for the greater good of the association and our members, and therefore urge all our members to support the programs fully in order to benefit maximally from the various opportunities that will come up from our various strides and collaborations.
“Our resilience and determination ensured that we came out of 2023 strong, despite all the enormous challenges that confronted us. We were able to make remarkable progress in various ways and we would strife to do even more this year. It is our honest hope that through collaboration with various stakeholders, we would be able to tackle critical issues especially involving fraud and other criminal activities” he said.
