Meta-owned popular messaging platform, WhatsApp recently introduced Meta AI chatbots in select markets, including India. Now, it has begun testing a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature that can allow users to create personalised stickers or AI avatars with their clicked images.
The ‘Imagine Me’ feature allows users to generate images of themselves using the Meta AI chatbot. The messaging service could then ask users to upload a handful of selfies when they first opt into the feature and it will let users create AI-generated stickers of themselves.
This feature could provide a creative alternative to the usual profile pictures by letting users personalise their profile pictures with AI-generated avatars.
Additionally, the ‘Imagine Me’ feature will be optional and would require WhatsApp users to manually enable it in settings before it can be used. This tool will also offer customisable backgrounds and locations, such as forests, space, etc., to enhance their profile avatars.
Meta AI, the chatbot powered by Llama 3 large language model (LLM) is currently available on Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger apps as well.
The new feature will enable users to envision themselves in various settings, from a dense forest to the vastness of outer space. Drawing comparisons to AI-driven apps like Lensa AI and Snapchat’s “Dreams” selfie feature, this tool aims to bring a similar level of customization to WhatsApp.
To create these avatars, users will need to upload a single set of photos to train Meta’s AI. After the initial setup, users can generate their personalized avatars by typing “Imagine me” followed by a description of the desired setting in Meta AI chat.
Alternatively, in regular WhatsApp conversations, they can use the command “@Meta AI imagine me…”
