MTN Foundation, through the Orphanage Support Initiative (OSI), is providing support to orphanages across the country in the form of food items, beverages, washing machines, televisions, toiletries and more.

This support, according to the institution, is in line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on No Poverty, Zero Hunger and Good Health and Well-Being.

Since its inception, over 200 orphanages and more than 20,000 children have benefitted from the Initiative. This year, twelve orphanages from across eight states in Nigeria – Edo, Bayelsa, Ogun, Rivers, Abuja, Kaduna, Abia and Kano – have received donations from the Initiative. The orphanages include Courage Orphanage, Daisy’s Home, Jamiyyar Matan Arewa Orphanage, Lady Dorcas Orphanage, Tower of Refuge Motherless Babies, among others.

Both children and management of the orphanages expressed their gratitude to MTN for its support. A representative of Magajin Gari Orphanage in Kaduna State, stated: “MTN, we are very grateful for your continued support to the orphanage. We hope that you will continue to identify with orphanages in the country as part of your corporate social responsibility. We want to assure you that these donations you have made will be used judiciously and strictly for the children that are in this orphanage. Thank you so much and God bless.”

Also speaking on MTN’s support, a representative of Grace Orphanage Home, said: “MTN is one organisation that has been giving us the strength and doing the work of God to make sure that all these orphans can go to school, feed well, live well and feel like other children.”

Commenting on the Initiative, the Executive Secretary of the MTN Foundation, Nonny Ugboma noted that orphanages are important part of our society that ensure that children without known parents are cared for. “The work they do is laudable and we at MTN are more than honoured to do what we can to support them. We are happy to see the smiles on the faces of the children and the management of the orphanages and we are committed to continuing our work to make their lives brighter,” Ugboma said.
