New Horizons, in collaboration with MRA and MHR Kafilat Ogbara, has awarded scholarships worth N10 million to teenagers residing in Magodo Residence Association (MRA). These scholarships will enable the beneficiaries to learn software and web development at the New Horizons/MRA/MHR Kafilat Ogbara Summer ICT Camp. Dozens of teenagers from MRA resumed today for training at New Horizons, the world’s largest ICT training institute, using laptops donated by MHR Kafilat Ogbara. The program, which kicked off on August 19, 2024, is part of New Horizons’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to MRA.

In his remarks, the MRA Chairman, Mr. Daramola Sheriff, commended New Horizons for this generous gesture and challenged the lucky teenagers. He noted that, although their parents are not paying for the training, someone (New Horizon) is covering the entire cost, which would have been at least N300,000 per participant.

In response, Founder/CEO of New Horizons and a member of MRA, Mr. Tim Akano, thanked the MRA Chairman and MHR Kafilat Ogbara for their commitment to the common good of MRA. Mr. Akano, who has lived in Magodo for the past 24 years, remarked that this scholarship is one of his legacies to MRA, for both parents and their children. The aim is to empower the children with cutting-edge technology skills that will make them globally competitive. He also urged other parents to enroll their children immediately to take advantage of this life-changing opportunity.

Mr. Akano cited examples of successful tech entrepreneurs like Bill Gates, who started coding at age 13; Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, who started at 17; and the Google founders, who began their journey at 19. He concluded by emphasizing that “our children, even at ages 9-19, are not too young to rule the world of programming. For inquiries on how to turn your kids into ICT world champions, send a message to info@newhorizonsnigeria.com”

After the training, each of the participants will be challenged to complete a project, and the best three entries will receive prizes. All participants will receive a certificate of participation, recognized in 90 countries globally.

New Horizons is the world’s number one ICT training institute, with offices in 90 countries. Established in California, USA, in 1982, New Horizons trains more students in more courses and locations than any other ICT training organization on earth. In Nigeria, over the last 20 years, New Horizons has empowered over 2 million youths, democratizing ICT skills and earning over 200 national, continental, and international awards.
