The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, has expressed its readiness to work with state governments in building accurate databases.

Disclosing the Commission’s plan to the General Manager of the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency, Bilikis Adebiyi-Abiola, at the NIMC headquarters in Abuja, Director General of NIMC, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, said that the collaboration would ease the use of the NIMC’s database “to improve service delivery and policy formulation

A statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Communications to Coker-Odusote, Ayodele Babalola, noted: “I admit that the age we are in is that of collaboration. In order to have a meaningful impact, it is important that we partner with each other.

“As no man is an island, so we have to continue to push the limits by leaving our comfort zones until the collective desire of seeing the country move forward is achieved.

The statement quoted Adebiyi-Abiola as saying that the visit was aimed at exploring possible ways for the two agencies to collaborate for effective identity capturing of the citizens.

“It is no news that we work together to ensure that Nigeria as a nation and Lagos State give citizens and residents the best in terms of social welfare and other basic amenities.

“But this has to be achieved using a systematic approach that shows that the government is responsible and responsive to its citizens,” Babalola said, adding that a major advantage of the registration system was the ability to identify and locate registered persons residing in Lagos.
