A new data from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) indicates that the National Identity Number (NIN) enrollment increased by an additional 10.3 million in 2023, to reach 104.16 million at the end of the year.

The data showed that the 10.3 million NIN enrollments in 2023 topped the 94.03 million recorded as at December 2022.

Regarding the gender distribution of the enrollees, the NIMC data reveals that 59.12 million, representing 56.8% of Nigerians captured in the NIN database so far, are male, while 45.04 million, representing 43.2% of the total enrollees, are female.

It will be recalled that a deadline of February 28, 2024 was announced as deadline for all Subscribers Identification Modules (SIMs) cards to be linked to NIN of all Nigerians.

However, the current data on the NIN enrollment figures is far from Nigeria’s 148 million World Bank target by June 2024.
