In the latest Internet Service ranking released this week by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Starlink, Elon Musk’s Internet company, has emerged as Nigeria’s third-largest Internet Service Provider (ISP) with 23,897 subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2023. Though new, Starlink trails behind one of Nigeria’s oldest ISP, Spectranet (113,869 subscribers) and FiberOne (27,000 subscribers).
The regulator’s data shows that the ISP, which launched its operations in Nigeria in January 2023, leaped 113% into Q4 from 11,207 customers the previous quarter.
Tizeti Networks and ipNX follows closely in fourth and fifth positions with 19,618 and 15,362 respectively.
The data assessment excludes mobile network operators that run internet services such as Airtel, MTN, Globacom and 9mobile.
