After a rigorous selection process that screened 500 applications from Nigeria and Ghana, e-Business Life Communication Limited Editor Chidiebere Nwankwo has been selected for the UK Media Excellence for Emerging Technologies (UK MEET) Fellowship.
The UK Media Excellence for Emerging Technology (UK MEET) Fellowship is funded by the UK Government through the British High Commission and delivered by Imperial College. It brings together 60 journalists from Ghana and Nigeria to report on science, technology and innovation (STI) with greater depth and confidence. The fellowship aims to equip African journalists with comprehensive news gathering and presentation skills, to bring that learning back to their colleagues.
The letter addressed to Mr. Nwankwo and signed by Imperial Global, organisers of the programme read in part:
“It is with great joy that we announce that you have been selected as a Fellow of the UK Media Excellence for Emerging Technology (UK MEET) Fellowship, delivered by Imperial College London through Imperial Global Ghana, with support from the British High Commission.
This was a highly competitive selection. We received more than 500 applications from journalists and content creators across Nigeria and Ghana, and every eligible application was scored independently by two reviewers. You are part of the 13% who were accepted. Your application stood out for its track record of reporting, a clear point of view, and a pitch with a question worth answering.”
In his response, Mr. Nwankwo expressed his appreciation for this opportunity to be part of the “remarkably impactful programme”, and pledged to be available all through the allotted times for the programme.
Prior to the in-country residential, which will take place from October 18 to 24, 2026 in Abuja, the Fellows have been engaged in a two-day virtual interactive sessions that exposed them to the requirements and programmes scheduled for the in-country residential.
According to the organisers, during the in-country residential, Fellows will work with researchers working on AI, climate, health technology and more, while also working through how to verify claims about emerging technology, finding the data behind the story and making complex science land with audience.
The in-country residential will also enable them take their pitch through hands-on clinics, sharpening the angle, the sources and the plan for getting it published they will also build a network with some of the strongest science and technology reporters in the region.
Also as part of the programme, and as a Delegate, Mr. Nwankwo will attend the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Health Summit 2026 billed to hold at the TY Danjuma Foundation Building, Abuja on October 19 and 20, 2026
The programme will continue in London for select Fellows.
The organisers explain that the residential affords Fellows a chance to strengthen their pitch towards a broader interaction with experts in London. “Fellows who apply what they learn and develop the strongest, most rigorous pitches will be considered for the UK Knowledge Exchange in London in late November. There you would spend time with researchers at Imperial College London and see the science behind the story first-hand,” a statement noted.
