The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi has assured the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) of the Agency’s total commitment towards realising the Commission’s vision of embracing digital technologies in its processes.
This was fallout of a courtesy visit paid to NITDA by a team led by the NBC Director-General, Director General, Balarabe Shehu Ilelah, at the Agency’s Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.
The NBC had approached the NITDA to seek its intervention in the digitisation of its processes, to change the Commission’s operation by incorporating the use of modern digital technology equipment in monitoring media stations.
Abdullahi said NITDA as a government IT regulatory saddled with the mandate of developing and regulating the use of IT in Nigeria, deploys its expertise to support any organization with zeal to upgrade to modern technology.
He gave assurance of NITDA’s commitment to incorporating NBC into its Digital Transformation Working Group (DTWG) to facilitate capacity building for their personnel and bring them up to speed on ways of having full grasp of the process, when and how to deploy and apply the technology appropriately.
Abdullahi disclosed that NITDA recently unveiled its Strategic Road Map and Action Plan 2021-2024 (SRAP) and urged the NBC to key into the programme and activities being provided by the Agency.
“The SRAP is designed as a template or map to assist the Agency in achieving its target plans through the execution of the strategic pillars, and I am optimistic that our collaboration will uplift the actualization its mandates such as digital skills, innovation, among others.
He further advised the NBC to come up with a strategy to develop their idea into reality more especially in the area of Content Regulations.
On digital booster and coverage, the DG said NITDA’s technical team will respond promptly to make the two government bodies collaborate, creating a vision for NBC’s digital strategy.
The DG of NBC had earlier stated that the visit is to create mutual understanding and to further intimate NITDA management of his Commission’s statutory functions.
He also sought for support and stronger collaboration with NITDA on the use of ICT and modern technologies in the ongoing Digital Switch Over (DSO) process nationwide.
The NBC delegation was led through a tour within the NITDA’s digital building to showcase the Agency’s latest equipment for tracking and curbing possible attacks to Nigeria’s cyberspace.
