The 2025 National Information Technology Merit Awards (NITMA), scheduled for November 20 at the MUSON Centre, Lagos, will be not only another award night but also a celebration of the individuals driving Nigeria’s digital transformation story.

According to the organizers, Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), this year’s award categories were carefully crafted to spotlight individuals and institutions making a tangible difference in the lives of Nigerians through technology.

The “Digital Governor” recognition, for instance, will celebrate state leaders who utilize ICT to enhance governance, service delivery, and citizens’ welfare. In the same vein, the “Youth Innovation Award” will highlight young Nigerians whose creativity and problem-solving abilities are pushing boundaries and offering innovative solutions to national challenges.

The “Cybersecurity Advocate of the Year” is expected to highlight individuals or institutions working tirelessly to keep Nigerians safe in the digital space, as cyber threats continue to rise. Equally, the “Tech Mentor” recognition will honour those who are nurturing the next generation of innovators, ensuring that knowledge and experience are transferred across generations.

Other categories, including the IT Personality, IT Company, and Recognition Awards, will emphasize those whose work, leadership, and investments have provided opportunities, jobs, and empowerment within Nigeria’s digital economy.

NCS President, Dr. Muhammad Sirajo Aliyu, explained that the selection process is designed to be transparent, relying on online polls and opinion votes. He stressed that the essence of the awards is not just recognition but also encouragement, serving as inspiration for more Nigerians to see technology as a tool for national development and personal growth.

The forthcoming NITMA 2025 is, therefore, expected to be more than a ceremony; it promises to be a moment where the human faces behind Nigeria’s IT revolution are celebrated for their impact on society, governance, security, and the future of work.
