… Partners Institute For the Future
The Stakeholders in Blockchain Technology Association of Nigeria (SiBAN) and the Institute For the Future (IFF) of the University of Nicosia (UNIC) have agreed to collaborate on blockchain education and its adoption.
The agreement between SiBAN and IFF was reached after signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SiBAN and IFF where they identified blockchain adoption and education as a critical need for the growth and development of the emerging blockchain industry.
The MoU between the two parties was signed by the Executive Director of the Institute For the Future (IFF) of the University of Nicosia, Prof. George Giaglis, and the Executive Secretary of Stakeholders in Blockchain Technology Association of Nigeria (SIBAN), Mr. Obinna Iwuno.
Since 2013, the University of Nicosia has remained the global leader by offering a Master’s degree fully focused on blockchain technologies and digital currency, and also a free Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) on digital currencies, which is attended by over 40,000 students from over 120 countries. Institute For the Future’s mission is to focus its research on the transformative future of blockchain technologies by supporting Blockchain protocols from the ecosystem to collaborate and solve real-world challenges.
With this collaboration between SiBAN and IFF, SiBAN will promote UNIC’s leading graduate degree program, MSc in Blockchain and Digital Currency, and associated academic certification programs within its blockchain & cryptocurrency community in Nigeria. SiBAN will drive both individual registration and corporate enrollment, leveraging its community reach and network to generally benefit Nigeria’s emerging blockchain industry and related industries.
By virtue of this collaboration between SiBAN and UNIC, SiBAN will benefit from UNIC’s partial scholarship offers uniquely available to SiBAN. Also, beyond these special offers for enrollment in UNIC’s academic programs and certification programs, the collaboration between SiBAN and UNIC involves the promotion of blockchain adoption and education generally, thus enabling both parties to mutually work together to drive and deepen blockchain adoption and education.
In the words of the SiBAN President, Senator Ihenyen: “At SiBAN, we realize that capacity building is critical to the growth and sustainable development of Nigeria’s emerging blockchain industry. With this collaboration with the University of Nicosia, we want to help equip Nigerians with quality education on blockchain technology, thus maximizing opportunities for Nigerians in today’s knowledge economy and digital age, leveraging the increasing global interest in blockchain and digital currencies. This is why we are particularly happy to collaborate with the Institute For the Future, University of Nicosia, a pioneering and prestigious institution in blockchain education and certification”
Classes for UNIC’s leading MSc in Blockchain and Digital Currencies program Fall intake commences on 27 September 2021. Interested individuals who apply for the MSc program and/or academic certification programs through SiBAN are expected to benefit from this collaboration.
This collaboration was made possible through the efforts of Mr. Jude Ozinegbe, a founding member of SiBAN and past Vice President on Membership, who is also the Nigerian Ambassador to the Institute For the Future and currently undertaking his MSc in Blockchain and Digital Currency at UNIC. In his words: “This collaboration with SiBAN, Nigeria’s self-regulatory Blockchain body, will go a long way to bring global credibility to the Nigerian Blockchain ecosystem.”
Jude also emphasized that the University of Nicosia is the global leading institution that offers accredited Blockchain Education, the first institution to receive tuition in Bitcoin, and the first to issue certificates that are verifiable on the Bitcoin Blockchain, solving the issue of false academic claims and results manipulation.
